To all the lovely ladies in this crazy shoe world,

Recently, there have been some interesting discourse over the matter of `homosexuality` as a genetic trait (or the potential thereof) and that of homosexuality as a nurtured characteristic.

Please allow me to become a case study for those leaning either way. I come from a very loving family and did not have to endure abuse of any kind (verbal/sexual/physical). My parents, after thirty years, are still madly in love (almost sickening) and are the posterboard heterosexual couple. In a way, I group up in a very ideal middle-class/suburban (okay almost stiffling so) life. On both sides of my family there are other *gasp* homosexuals. My family never did discuss this `alternative lifestyle` as I was growing up. Of course, not until I brought it up many years later. Regardless, have we all forgotten the basics of human developement. There are many forces that create a personality, a being, of which the two most common (and commonly argued) are that of nature and nurture.

Let me give you an example as to how I see it. I live in Japan. After the American occupation the Japanese had more available sources of nutrition and a wider variety of foods (not claiming that this was due to any American influence, merely that it opened up trade routes and aroused global interest in the people). This caused the genetic potential of the people to be realized.

In other words, the diet before 1950ish resulted in short/skinny people. After the diet change the people grew taller, but not necessarily less lean. Genetic potential could be fullfilled now that the resources were available, but this did not change the eating habits of the individuals. Hence, Japan is now a country of tall skinny people.

This is an example of nature AND nurture. Genetically I could be assigned a tall and muscular physique, but if I dont drink my milk (per se) and play sports (per se) I will not grow to be the tall and muscular person I am genetically capable of becoming (same with intelligence or propensity towards heart disease, etc).

I do not believe there to be any indpendent variables here. Unless, you are the baby in the glass box...

Highest regards,
e

I'm French and I'll be in Nara (Japan) from april and for 18 monthes. I'd like to know if there is some gay places around there, places where I can meet friends. It would be fine too if sommeone from shoe is from this area or elsewhere in Japan.

Thanks in advance

Hello Everyone,

I have recently been introduced to a Macrobiotic diet/life-style, and I love it. I am having trouble finding affordable Wakame seasalad. Is there anyone who culd point me in the right direction?
I am VERY interested in learning about Japanese culture. Please write back if you'd like to discuss many, many things :) art, music, FOOD :), cooking, fashion...everything!
I am sorry that I don't know/speak Japanese, that limits alot of communication.

Thank You for Your Time,

AER.
